The drawer's mission is to draw the given task – guesser's duty is to guess! In this game realization is more important than drawing skills.

Logging in

If you are a registered user of Playforia and have logged in with your nickname, you can start playing right away.

If you don't have your own Playforia nickname yet, you will be assigned a random visitor nickname starting with 'anonym' and a number to inform other players that you are a guest. This way you won't be confused with regular players.

If you want to create your own nickname (it's free!), click here.

After having logged in you will be able to enter the lobby of the game. In the lobby, you can create a new game room, join rooms made by other players of chat with other players who are in the lobby.

Creating a New Room
Choose a name and a password for the room, these are not, however, obligatory fields. If you don't name a room, the name of the room will be a series of numbers. If you don't choose a password, any player can enter the room. Normally a password is given only if a player wants only a certain group of friends to be able to enter the room. If you are a registered user, you also can choose that only other registered users are allowed to enter the room. In addition, you can choose the highest number of players accepted in the room, and the duration of a round. When you have completed the settings of the room, click the "Create a new room" button.

Joining a Room
On the right side of the lobby, there is a list of the rooms created. When you click on a name of a room, you will see the players who are in the room at that moment. If there is a marking [PW] before the name of a room on the list, you need a password to be able to enter the room. [Reg] means that the room is reserved only for registered users. Once you have found a good room for yourself, click the "Join the room" button. If the room you chose is password-protected, the password will be asked after clicking the "Join the room" button.

Lobby Chat
At the bottom of the lobby, there is a chat window in which you can chat with other players who are in the lobby.

The game

At least three players have to be in a room so that a game can take place. In case there are less than three players in a room, players must wait until more players arrive. Once there are enough players, one player has to volunteer as a drawer by clicking the "I want to draw" button in the bottom left corner of the screen. In case more than one player has signed up for drawing, the players in question will take turns drawing.

One player (the drawer) gets a word (selected at random by computer) that the other players don't see, and then the drawer has to draw a picture portraying the word on the screen, and the other players try to guess what the drawing portrays. The player who is the first to guess the right word, receives points for the guess -- the more points the quicker the guess. After this, the next drawer comes in and a new round starts. In case no one guesses the word during a round, no one receives points, but the game continues normally with a new round.

On the lower left side of the screen, there is a list of players. The list also shows the points collected by each player, and a possible "number on line" indicating the player's drawing turn.

Playing as a guesser

Look what kind of a picture the drawer is drawing on the drawing area situated in the upper right corner of the screen. Guess words by typing them in the chat below the drawing area. The guesses by other players are also displayed in the chat. If you (or some other player) guess the word partly right, there will be a notification of this in the chat. If the right word is, say, "flagpole" and someone guesses "flag", the guess is partly correct. A partly correct guess doesn't bring points but it acts as a good hint for the next guesses.

As the round proceeds, the game itself also starts to give hints about the word. These hints will be shown in the space between the drawing area and the chat. The hints are word class, the length of a word, and the first and the last letter of a word. The round ends if one of the players guesses the right word or the time is up and the round ends.

In case a drawer doesn't draw at his/her own turn, starts to draw inappropriate pictures, or simply starts to write the word to be guessed on the screen, you can vote for removing the person from the room by pressing the "Vote for Removal of Drawer" button that is displayed at the bottom of the screen on the left. In case enough guessers vote for the removal of the drawer, the drawer will be removed from the room and (s)he is not allowed to enter the room any more.

Playing as a drawer

In the beginning of a round, a word will be shown to you and you should portray this word in drawing to other players. Different drawing tools can be found from the left side of the drawing area, and, in addition you can choose the thickness and color of your pen. The drawing itself is done by pressing the mouse button down and by moving the mouse on the drawing area.

Remember that the purpose of the game is to draw, not to write. Even the most difficult words can be drawn, just give it a little thought. Remember, too, that the game also gives hints on the word that is being drawn, so you don't have to draw hints such as "7 characters" or "begins with t" but you can concentrate on drawing. The game doesn't take the aesthetical value of the drawings into account: it is enough that the picture gives the guessers an idea about the word.
